Action Radiotherapy’s ongoing campaign – Best 4 Six – is focused on trying to ensure every cancer patient in the UK has access to the best type of radiotherapy.
1 in 3 of us will get cancer at some point in our lives and half of those (one in six of us) will benefit from radiotherapy.
Modern radiotherapy is a very powerful and precise treatment which can cure many cancers. It is cutting-edge and cost-effective compared to other forms of treatment.
We are working to highlight the problem and have had great success in the past few years bringing media attention to the issue of lack of access to the best radiotherapy. You can see some of the coverage here, here and here. Judith Potts, a Trustee, also writes about Action Radiotherapy in her Telegraph column.
Recently DIBH has been highlighted as a significant improvement in radiotherapy for breast cancer. We have an information section on DIBH which you can access by clicking here. Feel free to check out our other pages too. There’s a wealth of information not just for patients but for professionals too.
We are currently fundraising to provide a dedicated, professionally-staffed chat service and phone line for patients, their family and friends. This will be operated by radiotherapy professionals who will be able to offer advice, information and/or support to those who need it, either electronically or on the phone.
We can’t fund this alone though. There is much work to do and, as a charity, we rely on public donations to support our work. If you would like to support the charity, there are a number of ways you can make a donation:
Monthly donations, no matter how small, are particularly helpful to us, as they help us to plan our work more effectively. A regular monthly donation of £3 is enough to make a big difference to our work. Simply visit our JustGiving page and click on the “Monthly Donation” tab.
You can also make a one-off donation using the donate button on the top right hand corner of this page or by texting BEST46 £3 to 70070.
If you’d prefer, you can send us a cheque. Please make it payable to “Action Radiotherapy” and post to: Action Radiotherapy 8 Romford Road Sale Cheshire M33 5GS.
What could my donation do?
Any donation is gratefully received and is used to really add value to the charity. Donations in the past year alone have enabled us to make a significant impact in helping both professionals and patients. Highlights include the launch of a professional forum with over 350 members, expansion of the patient section of the website and the distribution of an information leaflet across the UK.
We have had great success so far in bringing media attention to the issue of lack of access to the best radiotherapy but we still have so much more work to do.
£60,000 is needed to fund the dedicated helpline for patients.
We still need to keep pressure on NHS England to prioritise their decision-making for radiotherapy so that all cancer patients have access to the best radiotherapy when they need it.
Please help support this vitally important campaign.
