Fundraising enables Southend Hospital to use £30,000 state-of-the-art equipment to treat gynaecological cancer

Southend hospital has claimed it is the first NHS hospital in the country to use a piece of state-of-the-art equipment to treat gynaecological cancer. A hospital spokesman said the applicator benefits patients who previously would not have been able to receive brachytherapy treatment – a form of high-dose rate radiotherapy – and will allow treatment to reach cancer which has spread from the cervix and which would previously have been inaccessible.
