Plans for first heavy ion radiation therapy center in U.S. now underway

Plans are now underway in Texas to build a center for a cancer treatment that may give better outcomes than proton therapy – using heavy ion radiation. Compared to protons, “Heavy ion therapy is as fast and as painless, but more precise and more biologically potent,” Dr. Arnold Pompos, assistant professor of radiation oncology at the University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) Medical Center, told DOTmed News.
