X-rays and scanners are out-of-date at Hull hospitals – but there’s a £40m hole in the budget to pay for upgrade

Hospital bosses in Hull are considering applying for a multi-million pound loan to help pay for new medical and scientific equipment. The Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust says it is £40m short of what it needs to update vital equipment such as scanners and X-ray machines over the next three years. Committee chairman Councillor Victoria Aitken said problems with ageing equipment continued to be a concern for patients. She said: “We all hear stories of patients going to hospital for radiotherapy or something similar only to be told they can’t have it because the machinery isn’t working.
